11月9号，我院组织开展“种下科学小种子”科普活动，本次活动生动有趣，是一场为基础教育阶段的学生普及海洋科学技术，激发青少年兴趣的科普活动。来自深圳市龙华区外国语学校以及深圳市龙华区鹭湖外国语小学的一共20名学生参加了此次活动。我院助理教授Avik Kumar Das及多名研究生参与此次活动。
The Weekend Outreach Day was successfully held on 9th November 2024 and was a lively event designed specifically for K-12 students to popularize science and spark interest in marine science and technology. In total 20 students from Shenzhen Longhua Foreign Languages School and Shenzhen Longhua Luhu Foreign Languages Primary School participated in this.Assistant Prof. Avik Kumar Das and many students participated in this activity.
本次活动用生动有趣、互动性极强的方式展示了海洋工程研究成果以及可持续的建筑材料概念。Avik Kumar Das栩栩如生地介绍了各种概念，说明了科学是如何帮助我们去保护海洋，以及创造一个更可持续发展的未来的。本次活动旨在激发年轻一代的思想热情，培养其创新意识，及对环境的关注。
Hosted by Tsinghua University’s Institute of Ocean Engineering, the event featured fun, interactive exhibits showcasing marine engineering marvels and sustainable building materials. Prof. Avik Kumar Das brought various concepts to life, showing how science can help protect our oceans and create a more sustainable future. The event aimed to inspire young minds and nurture a love for innovation and environmental stewardship.

在师生指导下，孩子们非常开心的体验了这些实践活动，例如用筛网将不同粒度的海沙沙粒分离，称量不同粒度的海沙重量并记录，将记录的数据做成柱状图，用立式砂浆收缩仪测量ECC试件的长度等。通过这些有趣的实践活动，孩子们了解到了环保友好的建筑材料（如ECC材料）的重要性。
Under the guidance of graduate students, Kids enjoyed hands-on activities like separating different sized sea sand grains by filter, weighting the weight of various sized sea sand grains and record the data, learning how to make a column chart by using recorded data, measuring the length of ECC specimen with Vertical Mortar Shrinkage Tester etc. and learning about the importance of eco-friendly construction materials, such as Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC).

通过本次参观及实践活动，学生了解到了环保友好的建筑材料例如ECC材料的重要性。本次活动向基础教育阶段学生们普及了海洋科学技术，点燃了他们对海洋科学技术的兴趣，启发了青少年的创新思维，培养了他们创新意识，强化对环境的关注，在孩子们心中种下了科学的小种子。
From the event, students learn about the importance of eco-friendly construction materials, such as Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC).The event popularizes science and spark interest in marine science and technology.The event inspires young minds, nurtures a love for innovation and environmental stewardship and plant the seed of science into children’s heart.
